Trade Compliance

Export control is an international legal instrument designed to regulate the cross-border transfer of security-sensitive goods and services. Its primary goal is to prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs).

Export Control Regulations

By imposing legal restrictions on foreign trade, export control helps to

  • Protect the essential security interests of a country or economic region
  • Secure peaceful relations between nations
  • Prevent terrorism

Modern export control has four key objectives:

  • Preventing the proliferation of WMDs(non-proliferation)
  • Controlling the spread of conventional armaments
  • Combating terrorism by regulating exports
  • Ensuring compliance with all applicable legal requirements

The main areas covered by export control include:

  • Product-related export controls
  • Embargo regulations
  • Anti-terrorism regulations
  • Monitoring critical end-use of exported goods

Semikron Danfoss places great emphasis on complying with export control regulations to ensure responsible and lawful business practices. The main areas of our export control include:

Product-related Export Control

Semikron Danfoss has an obligation to determine, if our products are subject to export control according to EU, US or local legislation. If a product is dual-use and, thereby, subject to export control, it will be classified as dual-use and applied with an AL (“Ausfuhrlisten”-Nummer) and/or ECCN (Export Control Classification Number) number. Not only physical products can be subject to export controls, also software, technology (such as a Bill of Material (BOM)) or a password token can be subject to such controls.

Embargo Regulations

We closely monitor embargos imposed by the UN, EU, and US. All critical countries are monitored via our ERP system to ensure compliance.

Anti-Terrorism Regulations and Critical End-Use

We strictly adhere to international anti-terrorism regulations and ensure that neither Semikron Danfoss products nor economic resources are used in a way that supports terrorism.

Our procedures are designed to prevent the misuse of products in regions where there are risks based on international legislation (export control) and international standards (human rights).

Semikron Danfoss products should not be used for critical end-uses, and customers from embargoed countries (e.g. arms embargo) must submit an end-use declaration so that due diligence can ensure potential use.
